How To Host A Cookie Exchange

My sister in law Joy makes the best sugar cookies each Christmas.  They practically melt in your mouth.  This year she graciously invited me to participate in her annual cookie exchange so I could share it with you.  She and her friend Deanna started the cookie baking tradition over 15 years ago, when they were both newlyweds.  They would spend a full day and night baking up cookies for friends and family. Over the years they turned it into a cookie exchange and decorating party with each inviting three friends to join them.  This quickly became a treasured invite with [...]

Chocolate Peppermint Shortbread Cookies

Today I am sharing a new favorite Christmas Cookie.  One of the cookies in our family recipe rotation is a shortbread cookie topped with chocolate and nuts.  Feeling inspired I tried a new version with crushed peppermints and drizzled with white chocolate.  It was dangerously good. It might even be what I make for the Cookie Exchange I am going to this Monday. It is easy to make and can be packaged up as gifts for your friends or co-workers.  I used this cute food packaging that the Michael’s by my house features  by Martha Stewart.  They always have coupons [...]

Coconut Cupcakes and a Christmas Dessert Buffet

Dallas Design Agency I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  I spent it with my family.  That evening we went with my niece and nephew to see Tangled, continuing our Thanksgiving night movie tradition.  What a cute movie. This weekend I worked on a Christmas Dessert Buffet to showcase a variety of baked good and treats.  Dessert buffets have become quite the trend. It is a fun way to add a sparkle to your parties.  First, pick a theme and a color scheme.  I chose a red and white theme and created desserts that would go with that theme. I [...]

Oatmeal Caramel Apple Cookies

These Oatmeal Caramel Apple Cookies are apple crisp in a bite.  They combine all the tastes of fall like oats, caramel and apples for a flavor packed cookie.  These would be great in lunches or served warm with a scoop of ice cream. I used Honeycrisp apples and Kraft Caramel Bites.  I have never used the caramel bites before, what a great find.  I am already thinking of new ways to incorporate them into recipes.  I think they would be great in the Apple Pie Pops I made with the kids. I baked half the batch and then froze the [...]

Compost Cookies for a Cause

I have been reading about these Compost Cookies for months.  I am hoping to go to Momofuku Milk Bar when I go to New York on a business trip the end of this month.  One of my favorite cookies is the Special K cookies I used to make with my grandmother.  So this cookie intrigued me. I was providing snacks for the movie crew from the movie our church is making called Not Today.  It is a movie that addresses the issue of human trafficking in India. They just returned from India and are now filming locally. On a whim [...]

Flourless Chocolate Dipped Peanut Butter Cookies

I have been on a bit of a cookie roll lately.  Peanut butter and chocolate are such a tasty combination.  I loved Reese’s Peanut Butter cups as a kids. I saw a recipe for flowerless Peanut Butter Cookies and decided to give them a try.  I made more than a few adaptations but these were super easy.  One bowl, a few minutes to put together and into the oven they go.  They are small little bites making the perfect little snack. If I was a SAH they would make a perfect after school treat.  My volunteers and co-workers thought they [...]

Chocolate Macarons with Chocolate Raspberry Filling

Today was the day of firsts.  I made my first batch of Chocolate Macarons and I conquered Caramel.  It was a good day. A few months back I was supposed to go to Tartlette’s Macarons class up in LA.  My dog was recovering from surgery and I wasn’t able to go.  I look at the beautiful pictures on other bloggers sites but have heard they are difficult to make. Reading David’s post on his Chocolate Macarons it didn’t seem to be that hard so I decided to jump in and try.  I have to admit I was pleased with my [...]

Espresso Hearts with Chocolate Drizzle for Valentines Day

Happy Valentines Day!  I hope you are enjoying this weekend. Over the holidays I made these Espresso Shortbreads and loved the delicate flavor.  For Valentines Day I decided to make a version of those in heart shapes, drizzled with chocolate. They are light with a hint of espresso and a little bit of chocolate.  Wrapped up in cellophane with a little ribbon they would make the perfect Valentine’s Treat. Espresso Bean Shortbread Hearts Adapted from Martha Stewart recipe Makes about 2 1/2 dozen. 2/3 cup all-purpose flour 1 tablespoon finely ground espresso beans 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature 1/4 [...]

Espresso Shortbread

Looking for new cookie recipes I discovered these Espresso Chocolate Shortbread cookies over at Smitten Kitchen.  How can you go wrong with espresso and chocolate and shortbread.  I was sold at the recipe but then I took a bite. They melt in your mouth. These are from Dorie Greenspan’s “Baking From My Home to Yours”.  It is a great cookbook full of amazing treats.  These cookies are buttery with a hint of coffee and sweet, but not too sweet, and chocolate.  Deb was right when she said they get better with age.  I had these in a tin for over a [...]

White Chocolate Lemon Biscotti

My 2010 has already been zooming by. What about yours? While trying to focus on 10 in 2010 I have not been in the kitchen as much.  Rest assured, that is changing and I have many new recipes to share in the coming days. Here is one I made during the holidays but it is perfect year round – White Chocolate Lemon Biscotti.  Biscotti is the perfect side to a cup of coffee.  These also make a pretty gift to bring to a friend. Lemon Almond Biscotti adapted from a recipe by Giada de Laurentis 2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 [...]
