Quantcast

Spiced Yogurt Muffins

So I obviously did not meet my goal of posting every day, must less in days!  But here is a little light breakfast treat for the holiday season.  I saw these in the November issue of Food and Wine and thought I would try them.  I had fresh cranberries in my refrigerator so I decided to add them to the mix.  They made these extra moist and tangy.

Filet of Beef with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce

So, I am obviously not making the daily blog entry I had set as a goal.  Yesterday I shopped and planned for a meal to make for my friends and post here at Adventures in the Kitchen.  I was excited to share one of my favorite crowd pleasers with you, Ina Garten’s Filet of Beef with Gorgonzola Cream Sauce. You might notice the absence of pictures.(Update – pictures have been added) Yesterday was a bad fire day in the OC.  One of the fires was near my brothers house.  Midday we sadly found out a friend of ours apartment complex [...]

Meyer Lemon Cranberry Scones

Everywhere I went yesterday the stores were already decorated for Christmas.  How crazy is that? I want to enjoy fall and Thanksgiving before crossing into the Christmas season.  Except for Christmas music.  I had a roommate in my twenties and in October we would close all the windows and blare our favorite Christmas music. Seriously though, I know the stores are hurting in this tough economy but I wish we could have that small space between Halloween and Christmas to enjoy the fall. Knowing I am fighting an uphill battle I gave in and bought cranberries to try out some [...]

Parmesan Popovers

I am sure you can see I struggled to post everyday this week, the first week of NaBloPoMo.  Thursday was the biggest event of my day job each year so I was a bit optimistic thinking I could do this.  That night, a great night I might add, is over.  Hopefully I can turn the tide and meet the challenge. I looked up a few of the recipes that never made the blog, mostly for lack of pictures.  Parmesan Popovers are quick little popovers to add to your arsenal of quick and easy appetizers. This recipe is from Giada’s show, [...]

Balsamic Cipolline Onions

Last year for a dinner party, I made Balsamic Cipolline Onions as a side dish to the filet of beef I was serving.  I had first tasted these as part of a meal on my trip to Italy a few years back.  I found a recipe on the Food TV site by Mario Batali. The balsamic sauce thickens giving the onions a sweet and sour taste that is bursting with flavor.  These are great as a side to beef or as part of an antipasto platter.

Banana Coffee Muffins

Taking a break from the Baked cookbook, I had a few ripe bananas that needed to be put to use.  Searching online I found a banana coffee muffin recipe by Paula Deen.  I remembered making something similar awhile back but with chocolate chips. These are make in minutes muffins.  They are the kind you can throw together in the morning and bring to your co-workers or for a weekend brunch.

Sweet and Salty Cupcakes

You might get sick of me waxing poetic about Baked, my favorite new cookbook.  When I was flipping through the book I saw Sweet and Salty.  There is something addictive about sweet and salty.  Even Starbucks has a new hot chocolate drink that features caramel and salt.  I have resisted even tasting it.   It is just better that way. I was supposed to bring something to celebrate one of our staff’s birthday so when I was out of red food coloring for the Red Velvet cupcakes, I decided to give this one a test but in cupcake form. The picture [...]

Celery Salad with Walnut, Dates and Pecorino

November is here.  I love the fall, which seems funny living in Southern California.  But I love the crisp air and as much as it is possible here, the sense that seasons are changing. It is my favorite time of year.  The Christmas madness has not started, though this year everywhere I look I am seeing Christmas already.  November brings Thanksgiving which is my favorite holiday.  It is a great day to spend with family and friends and reflect on all that we have to be thankful for. Cooking wise I start looking for the Thanksgiving issues of the cooking [...]

Free Starbucks on Election Day

Today is election day and Starbucks is encouraging everyone to get out and vote.  If you go in and tell them you voted they will give you a cup of coffee. Many of you might have voted early.  I will be up early at the local senior center waiting to cast my vote, not only on our presidential race, but local issues that are very important to me. Do not take for granted that things seem hopeless or a slam dunk for your candidate.  This year in so many issues that are at stake truly every vote counts. I am [...]

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies

Things has been going so well.  I had  had stopped the cookbook madness.  Have I confessed that I have a few cookbooks.  It is a problem really. But I was had been resisting the urge when I entered bookstores, for over six months.  Then I discovered this new cookbook, Baked:  New Frontiers in Baking and it was over. Baked is a bakery in Brooklyn that has been featured on Martha Stewart Living and Oprah.  The pictures are beautiful and make you want to bake all the recipes in the book right now.  Well, I gave it a try today, cooking [...]
